Reese Witherspoon suffered minor injuries when she was hit by a car while jogging in Santa Monica, police said Wednesday.
Witherspoon was struck around 11 a.m. in a residential neighborhood. The driver of the car, an 84-year-old woman who'd been traveling about 20 mph, was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
The actress was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment, police said. She was not seriously injured and by the afternoon was resting comfortably at her Brentwood-area home, her rep said in a statement.
"The driver seemed to have not seen her because of a large tree at the intersection," a witness toldUs Weekly, calling the "Legally Blonde" star "lucky, because it could have been much more serious."
Witherspoon, 35, most recently starred in "Water for Elephants" with Robert Pattinson. She won a best actress Oscar in 2006 for her performance as June Carter Cash in "Walk the Line."
In June, she took home the Generation Award at MTV's Movie Awards, saying to thunderous applause, "I know it's cool to be bad, I get it -- but it's also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show."
Witherspoon married agent Jim Toth in March in Ojai.

he incident happened while Witherspoon was running along a pedestrian path in Santa Monica. She was struck from behind at around 35km/h by the women, who was later fined for failing to stop at a crossing. Santa Monica police Sergent Richard Lewis said,
“The initial investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, an 84-year-old female resident of Santa Monica, was travelling southbound and struck a female pedestrian jogging westbound within an unmarked crosswalk.
“The pedestrian was subsequently identified as Reese Witherspoon. Witherspoon suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for medical treatment.”
A Witherspoon spokesperson told People.com that she was not seriously in the accident and is now resting a home.
